We’re Tishomingo Blu

We are two sisters who created Tishomingo Blu to pay tribute to our father's legacy and his passion for cowboy culture with children's picture books, featuring the fictional character Cowboy Jack inspired by our father, and merchandise for all ages. Black cowboy culture is a significant part of American history, and our father, Major "Jack" Wolfe, was a Black cowboy from Tishomingo (pronounced ti-shuh-ming-gow), Oklahoma. We incorporated his favorite color, blue, into our name as a unique way to remember him and his love of riding horses

Cowboy Major Jack

Let's introduce you to Major "Jack" Wolfe. Our father was born in 1921 and grew up in a large family with eight brothers and two sisters. Our father comes from a lineage of Chickasaw Freedmen (freed slaves of the Chickasaw Indians) and confirmed Chickasaw ancestry.

Despite humble beginnings, he developed a love for horses at a young age. Inspired by his cowboy hero, Roy Rogers, he taught himself the basics of horsemanship and became a skilled ranch hand and horse trainer in the 1940s. He worked at various ranches, including Hidden Well Ranch in NV, where celebrities like Albert Hitchcock and Benny Goodman would stay. He continued to train horses, including show horses, until the late 1960s. Although he may have stopped training and riding, his love for horses was a significant part of his life for many years, and he was always a cowboy at heart.
